Few places outside the Holy Land have a story that compares to Kirtland, Ohio. America's Sacred Ground: Kirtland explores the unique history of this town from 1831 to 1838 when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was headquartered in this small village in northeast Ohio. People from throughout the United States and Canada moved here to be taught by a man they believed to be a prophet of God--Joseph Smith. Under his leadership, they built a magnificent temple which still stands today and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Using eyewitness accounts, this program examines the faith and perseverance of the people who lived here and the remarkable spiritual events they experienced as they sacrificed to build a society based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.
