The premiere of Dinner Takes All, BYUtv's newest cook-off gameshow, is happening on March 20th at 7pm MT and we can't wait for you to witness this gameshow full of food, family, and fun!
The host of Dinner Takes All, Kelsey Nixon, sat down with us to give us a look inside this show. Find out all about Dinner Takes All and a little about Kelsey herself below!
BYUtv: Tell us about yourself.
Kelsey: I'm Kelsey Nixon. I'm the host of Dinner Takes All. I'm a cookbook author. I've hosted other cooking shows. I'm a mom. I've got two kids and a lovely husband who is very good at doing the dishes. I love food. I love to eat. I love to travel with my family. Yeah! That's me in a nutshell.
BYUtv: What do you like to do for fun?
Kelsey: When it comes to fun, I never say no to a good girl's night out, which usually includes a really good meal, chatting with my friends and if we're lucky, a quick little shopping trip.
BYUtv: Where is your dream vacation?
Kelsey: If I had to pick a dream destination for a vacation, it would probably be Bora Bora. Right now, I'm in the phase of life where I like relaxing vacations, and I could do some serious relaxing in Bora Bora.
BYUtv: Tell us about the show.
Kelsey: This show is amazing! Dinner Takes All really celebrates three things: family, food and fun. It's a family competition show where two families face off cooking their best meal, but then along the way as the host, I pull them away to play silly games where they win or lose points that affect their final score. It's really a television show that celebrates home cooking, and families cooking together and my hope really is that people will be inspired by the show to get back in their own home kitchens and break bread with the people that they love most.
BYUtv: What is your favorite part about hosting?
Kelsey: My favorite part of hosting Dinner Takes All is that I get to meet so many incredible and interesting families. Also, I get to taste the food, but I don't have to judge it. And that's the best part. I really just get to celebrate everything that these families bring into our kitchen. I think the viewers are going to love the games on Dinner Takes All.
BYUtv: What will the viewers love most about the show?
Kelsey: The games were specifically created so people could take those games and play them in their own homes to a certain extent. So, I love this idea that you can sit down and watch Dinner Takes All as a family together and then create a similar experience in your own kitchen.
BYUtv: Describe the show in 3 words?
Kelsey: Dinner Takes All is best described as food, family, and fun.
BYUtv: Are the families using specific recipes?
Kelsey: You know, we get families in the Dinner Takes All kitchens that are both using recipes and just kind of cooking from the heart and lots of times you'll get a mix of both, where maybe they're following a specific recipe for a cake or some sort of dessert but you know, they've got these ribs that they just know how to make and they've got the rub memorized and they cook by taste or by feel or really just by heart. And so it's fun to see both of those things come into our studio kitchens.
BYUtv: What does a day on the show look like for you?
Kelsey: A day in Dinner Takes All for me usually starts pretty early in the morning, around 7 a.m., and I go into hair and makeup which is really lovely that I don't have to do it myself. Then I get dressed, I get this, I have this lovely wardrobe that's so fun that someone picks out the clothes for me and I don't have to do it. And then I come out here and I meet two of our incredible families, we jump right into it. We film the show which takes about four hours, and then I have a quick bite to eat for lunch, which sometimes I skip because I've had a full meal just before with the first show. And then we do it all over again. Typically, we film two shows a day, so it's about a 12 hour day when we film Dinner Takes All.
BYUtv: Tell us about the mini games.
Kelsey: The games are so fun, they're really simple, easy to understand, really nothing's too difficult, most of our trivia games have a fifty percent chance of getting the question right, or some of our silly games like Dangerous Cupcakes, is all up to chance. So, the idea is that whether you're 8 years old or 88 years old, you can have fun playing these games.
BYUtv: Anything else you’d like the viewers to know?
Kelsey: I'm so excited for the viewers to finally get their eyes on Dinner Takes All. This show is so much fun and it's unlike anything else out there available. It celebrates the home cook, in a way like I have never seen before and I think people are going to love it.
