Ask The Expert
I’m having a hard time finding my family records online. Why is this? Aren’t there supposed to be millions of online records?
Actually, there are several billion records available online. That may seem like a lot, but really it’s only a small fraction of the total records that are available worldwide. Most of the records are still only available on microfilm or in paper books and documents stored in archives, libraries, and churches. Chances are, your family records are among those on microfilm or on paper. FamilySearch has millions of rolls of microfilm from over 100 countries that are publicly available. Many other records are available through local agencies, organizations, and churches around the world.
