This is a guest post by former BYU and NFL tight end Chad Lewis.

I really enjoyed being a part of the BYUtv Legends program. It was much more of a serious production than I thought it was going to be. When I was going to meet the crew for the first time, I thought I would only see Curt (the host) and a cameraman. But they had a whole team, a massive crew. I thought they were filming Lawrence of Arabia or something.

Scott Murphy was simply the best. He is not on any of the Legends episodes—he is Legends. He's the director and producer of the show. He is the main man. He graduated from BYU and spent the last several years in L.A. working in the business. I know he is happy to come back to BYU and do this and other projects.

I have been on a lot of production sets through the years and Scott is one of the best guys I have worked with. There is so much that goes into the creation and success of each and every scene, and Scott is the one making sure that everything good translates to the screen. It was fun to see him in action and to work with him. He was willing to do whatever it took to get a shot. He had no problem showing up at my home at 6:00 in the morning to film my wife Michele and me jogging in preparation for our St. George Marathon.

Curt was another great surprise during the filming of Legends. The first time I met him was when I helped Ty Detmer with the competition segment of his Legends program. Curt was hilarious with Ty and I knew that I was going to have fun filming and working with him. He is just as funny and witty off-camera as he is during the filming. You have to be on your toes with Curt because he will always crack a joke just before the camera starts rolling. If you're not careful, you will be cracking up when you are supposed to be speaking. He enjoys what he does and it's apparent when you watch Legends. He loves life and he makes it easy to speak with him on camera. He does a great job of making himself out to be a big bumbling klutz during the competition segments. I think all of that is just for TV.

I was blown away when I was shown the clips from my friends and mission companions and coaches. I was not prepared for how much effort went into making this a first-class program. When I heard those people in my life that I care about so much saying those things, it caught me off guard. I hope they don't show me crying when I watched it.

I hoped that we could do something cool as a way to introduce my Legends segment. I wanted to do something related to jumping over people in some way, since that was my move on the field. I thought about jumping over someone on the high dive platform at the BYU swimming pool and landing in the water. We talked about it for a while, but thought it might be more confusing than anything. I am not exactly sure what will be used to promote the piece, but I can assure you it is not going to be as dramatic as seeing a big orangutan jumping over someone and splashing into the pool.

I hope the tennis ball catching segment will come across better on the TV than I think it might. We thought about what kind of competition challenge we could do and that was the best we could come up with. Catching tennis balls was something that I did during my career to help my eye/hand coordination. It really works. If you want to have better hands, try it.

I have enjoyed watching all of the Legends programs about the other athletes. They each have moments that are so good that I bust out laughing or smile with joy. I am amazed by what has been captured by this series. If you are a BYU fan, it is worth watching.

BYUtv is a miracle. It's picked up by 55 million homes. It is a platform that we have never had before and we are learning more each day how to best use it. When I turn on my TV it is the first channel I turn to. They always have cool stuff playing. There is a lot of junk TV but I can always count on something great on BYUtv.

How cool is it to see live BYU games on TV? It was cool to see a pre-game and post-game set with Alema Harrington this year before the football games. Dave McCann has been an awesome host. I love watching volleyball or soccer or basketball or anything else, and I think it is cool that people all around the world can access BYU athletics because of BYUtv. It is incredible.
